Women and men celebrated Emirati Women’s Day together!

What is your morning routine? Is this a question commonly asked of men? Why, then, is it asked of women? In our society, there are certain questions directed at women that focus on personal life and balancing family and career, while men are often asked about their professional achievements. Did you know that these types of questions reinforce stereotypes? In our constant effort to challenge negative stereotypes, we decided to flip the script by asking men questions typically posed to women, and vice versa. We showcased this in a video on our magazine's platforms in celebration of Emirati Women’s Day. In this interview, we delve deeper with Adi Alfardan to discuss these negative stereotypes and the best ways to challenge them in our communities.

What do you think are the negative stereotypes about women and men that need to be eliminated?

We need to eliminate the negative beliefs regarding a woman's ability to succeed in leadership and scientific fields, and stop limiting her to roles such as homemaking. As for men, we must abandon the outdated idea that they must always be strong, unable to express emotions, or share in family responsibilities. These stereotypes restrict personal potential and lead to an imbalance in society.

What are the best ways to achieve balance in the treatment of both women and men without resorting to stereotypes? We need to raise awareness about the importance of gender equality, promote positive images, and adopt policies and laws that support women’s rights and their participation in all fields. Additionally, we should encourage men’s involvement in family roles.
What is your message to Emirati women on their national day?

I congratulate you on your outstanding achievements in various fields. You have demonstrated your boundless capabilities and ambitions. Continue striving for excellence, and remain a constant source of inspiration for future generations. Emirati Women's Day is your day to appreciate your efforts and contributions to building a strong and progressive society.

For you, gemstones are not merely adornments but valuable heirlooms passed down through generations. Can you share more about this passion?

Natural gemstones have a rich history and significant cultural heritage, reflecting craftsmanship, creativity, and beauty over time. Each gemstone is a masterpiece symbolizing heritage and tradition. By passing them down, we preserve their value and enhance it for future generations.

What are your future ambitions and projects?

I aim to expand my activities in the luxury jewelry industry, making it a bridge between cultures and contributing to the telling of new stories. I am also committed to supporting sustainable development and local communities.
